Pokaiks the Children was a spiritual experience
We had a wonderful Pokaiks the Children event on Saturday, Sept 30th. It was a bit cold and it rained most of the day however we had a very spiritual commemoration for the children. We were blessed to have a number of youth speakers, and dancers as well as to see many children walking with us. We will post a video as well as photos on our social media in the next days. I am very grateful for all of the hard work of our elders, our organizing committee to put on the event as well as for the energy of the speakers, the dancers and the drummers. We are particularly grateful to American Indian Movement who provided community security, helped to erect a tipi in the park for the storytelling and also shared honour songs and drumming with us. Thank you also to the artisans and community organizations who braved the weather to share their artistry and their programming with all of us. We are very grateful to all of the sponsors who supported Pokaiks the Children as well! I hope that you were able to add your piece to the communal star blanket activity that we had going too! We will share pictures of that soon.
If you have feedback for us on any of these events, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you!
